Philadelphia, Pennsylvania December 2015 Hosted by: NRPA and Knight Foundation
Using Philadelphia as the venue and leading example, NRPA in collaboration with the Knight Foundation gathered a group of park and recreation thought leaders from across the country to explore the issue of breaking down municipal silos and creating innovative methods to better serve the public. Solving challenges facing cities and metropolitan areas requires civic innovators to stand up and leverage the power of their people and places to collaborate and better engage with the communities they serve.
Philadelphia is among the national leaders in civic innovation, and is the ideal location for an Innovation Lab on this topic. Over the past eight years, Philadelphia's Parks and Recreation Department's cross-departmental partnerships have been the catalyst for improved planning, open space, economic development, sustainability and transportation.
