Over the past few weeks, the White House has issued Executive Orders impacting NRPA’s work, particularly in areas related to diversity, equity, inclusion and gender ideology. We are actively working with subject matter experts and federal partners to assess these impacts and determine what they mean for the parks and recreation field.
Right now, our priority is gathering information to adjust our grant-funded work while closely monitoring these orders. At the same time, we are identifying ways to continue supporting you and the vital work you do in communities nationwide. Here’s where we stand:
- Maintaining open communication with federal grant officers and grantees affected by the Executive Orders
- Conducting risk assessments and mitigation efforts for NRPA as a federal grant recipient
- Adjusting how we communicate about our work to comply with requirements — while staying true to NRPA’s core values
- Refining our advocacy strategy to protect federal funding for parks and recreation
Above all, we are focused on the impact these changes have on you and the communities you serve. NRPA remains committed to supporting you by developing resources, including webinars and partner materials, which we will share soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to connect with peers on NRPA Connect to navigate our challenges together.
For more than 100 years, our organization has championed safe, welcoming spaces for all. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring parks and recreation continue to serve everyone.
Stay tuned for more updates and be sure to follow Parks & Recreation magazine, our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn), and NRPA Connect for the latest information.
Thank you for the critical work you do every day.
