Parks everywhere play an important role in promoting pollinator health
Ashburn, Va. (April 3, 2018) — According to a recent poll conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), nearly all Americans agree that promoting pollinator health should be a conservation priority across the United States. Promoting pollinator health includes protecting against the decline and death of pollinators, such as honey bees and other insects, and increasing their habitat.
Baby boomers (96 percent) are the biggest proponents of promoting pollinator health followed closely by Gen Xers (95 percent) and millennials (91 percent). Support for promoting pollinator health also varies by region. Americans in the western (96 percent) and northeastern (95 percent) regions of the United States show the highest support for pollinator conservation efforts.
“More and more communities are taking the necessary steps to protect pollinators from extinction,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA president and CEO. “Many of these efforts are led by local park and rec agencies that understand the importance of environmental protection and conservation. NRPA is proud to support these efforts, as well.”
According to a report issued by NRPA, more than 70 percent of park and rec agencies protect and manage wildlife and wildlife habitat. Many of these agencies (52 percent) foster public engagement and education, as well. This includes the promotion of pollinator health.
