Parks are a place where all people, regardless of income, race or ability, can gather and express themselves openly and freely. This includes many types of events where people gather and voice their support or opposition to issues they are passionate about. Americans are united in agreement that public parks are places where community members should be able to share diverse opinions in a respectful, constructive manner.

Key Findings

• Nine in 10 Americans believe the right to assemble peacefully in a constructive, respectful, and safe manner in public spaces, like parks and town squares, is important
• 91 percent of Millennials and Gen Xers feel the right to assemble is important with 84 percent of Baby Boomers feeling the same
• Americans with children in the household are more likely than those without children in the home to feel the right to assemble in public spaces is important (94 percent vs 85 percent respectively)
• No significant differences existed between races or varying background on how important the right to assemble is among Americans
